In case anyone is wondering where I've gone to after Bardic Madness, I've come down with an insidious slow-moving cold that has been making the tour of my nose, throat, and general well-being. So I'm trying to sleep a lot, carry kleenex around with me, and keep warm.|
Whether I show up at the Tournament of Champions depends partly on whether I feel better. But it's looking probable that I'm not going. I don't have motel reservations and I didn't pre-reg. Plus I'm not actually doing anything there (since the performing arts competition seems to have been forgotten) and I know how tiny the site is. I feel I should leave the space to people who actually need to be there!
I'm sorry that you are sick. That is never any fun. I suggest drinking lots of liquids. I mean.. I figure you're probably doing that, but.. yeah. Just in case.
I had a nice e-mail (one) with her highness, and with Tarik.
...Whether or not it was their intent, the message they managed to get across was basically "We don't really care about performing arts."
I won't be there.
That's really sad. The arts and sciences get brushed aside so very much. But when the "show" is on, what provides the proper atmosphere... those same arts and sciences! Beautiful music, wonderful clothing/armor and decorations.
I had to edit my post to include the food, of course... it's not actually part of "court" which is where my mind was on my original post, but the food is another place where people just assume it's gonna be there and kind of take it for granted.
The royalty should especially appreciate all facets of the activities... if they do not, then they are not only missing out on some wonderful stuff, but setting a bad example for the rest of the populace.
Well it does say on their royal progress that any events that they go to should have armored fighting if at all possible, actually I don't see ANY events on their royal progress that don't have some sort of fighting either light or heavy...and yes that is very sad... :( especially for us theatre, singing, playing, dancing types...there's not a ball at Coronation this year either :(
I guess everyone has their own thing... I personally can't stand watching the heavy fighting, although I have enjoyed a few Fencing tournaments in my day.
I feel part of being royalty really means supporting *all* of the interests, not only the ones they personally happen to be interested in. It's part of the job. If they don't want that part of the job, then they shouldn't fight for the job- let someone who really wants it have it.
I'm drinking lots of liquids. LOTS of liquids. I even splurged on some of that really expensive pomegranate drink stuff. It was tasty, but it made my tummy hurt.
I can't believe they just don't care...that sucks.
I hope you feel better soon. I wish we could get together and visit sometime soon! Will you be coming up for crown? I'd offer you crash but I know you can't handle the cat.
I can't be there for Crown--I'm going to be in France! My mom and I are finally doing the tour we've been wanting to do for two years. I'll also miss Quest and the competing SUN event. It's a lot to miss, but for this trip, I'll deal with it.
But I want to see your house. I have this dream house on Whitney Way I've had my eye on; I'll probably never have it, but when I picture you in your new house, I picture you in my dream house! You would like it, it's got a finished basement with lots of storage, a two-car garage, a big backyard, and wood floors. ;) But it sounds like you like your house just fine!
I wasn't going to ask you about it because I don't want to put you in a pinchy position. But thank you for the surmise. Do they realize that "we just don't want to go there" isn't really a good answer? The last few years have seen half-a-dozen well-run bardic competitions in Northshield, and those who know how to run them are still around. There's no reason for them to flap their hands helplessly and whine, "But we don't know how it would be JUDGED..."
Not that I'm saying they're doing that. I'm just being colorful.
I will definitely be at Coronation. I'm the merchant-o-crat. How I'm going to do that and attend a 9 am choir rehearsal, I'm not sure. I hope Kudrun picks stuff that I know.
Ack! Get better. Hope it isn't what we've had.... several weeks of gack.
*hugs* Hope you feel better
