Progress! [Feb. 8th, 2008|01:38 pm]
[Current Location |home, for now]
[mood |elated]
[music |Dammit, I slept through the Stephanie Miller show again!]

Guess what? I had oatmeal for breakfast today! Oatmeal, a substance practically defined by the presence of chunks in it. Okay, it was just instant banana-bread flavored stuff, not the hearty steel-cut Irish oatmeal. And I did thin it out with milk. But it went down fine. I think I might feel nourished for the first time in days.

I am now officially a week past the tonsillectomy. The pain (which I've been treating with Tylenol only due to bleeding dangers with aspirin/ibuprofen, with about as much luck as I had two weeks ago using Tylenol for menstrual cramps: not much) is down to a dull roar, and swallowing isn't pain-free, but at least I can eat an entire serving of something in under an hour and not have to steel myself for the rush of pain with every single swallow. I've been off the heavy meds for over 24 hours (and had tapered somewhat during the 48 hours before that), so I can drive if I want to! (Added to which, various other bodily functions, which went mysteriously missing on the Percocet, are back. Hallelujah. For the amount it helped me, I'm questioning whether that stuff was worth the side effects, but meh, I'm done with it now, anyway.)

Plans: returning badly overdue videos/picking out more, picking up a few things at the grocery store, and stopping for a delightful blended coffee beverage at Borders, which I never get to do during the work week because they aren't open when I'm going to work.

After that: home for a nap, because that'll be the most I've done outside the apartment in a week!

They DIDN'T warn you about that?!?!? *boggle* That's one of the defining side effects of narcotics and they should have recommended something proactively.

Well, yes, they used the word "constipation". However, this wasn't constipation in my book. I've been constipated. This was "diarrhea with an inability to pry my anal sphincter open". THAT is DIFFERENT. It is categorically NOT constipation. (I was taking docusate sodium, for the record.)

Had the same problem with peeing, but much thinking about waterfalls and pushing from above usually opened things up.

I'm in no rush to be on opiates again, let's just say.

Sorry. She asked. I'm the daughter of a medical social worker, and I work in health care. Poke me and I start discussing inappropriate conversational topics like poop, pee, blood, pus...

Oddly, I'm very squeamish about looking at such things, except on myself, but I'll certainly talk about them, until someone tells me to shut up!
