Tonsillectomy update: Feeling a bit more like myself, to the point where I even slept until noon (which is normal, if I'm left to my own devices). I didn't miss med times, though! Swallowing is still really, really painful. I find myself storing up saliva in my mouth because it hurts so much to swallow it. I assume I used to swallow it without even thinking. Otherwise, I'd drool a lot...which isn't considered polite in most societies, as I understand it.

A friend of mom's advised her that an ice pack on the neck is actually helpful. I had a pack that they gave me right after surgery, but hadn't used it because I couldn't see how it would help. But using it every so often seems to cut down on the swelling on the inside, which is what's making it so painful to swallow.

Last night relativelylucid came by with some Sharon's Sorbet, chocolate flavor of course, which we enjoyed while we watched the first episode of The Tudors. We both agreed it (The Tudors, not the sorbet) was sort of trashy, esp. based on the number of people we witnessed performing sexual acts in the first ten minutes of the show. I think Sarra was still shaking her head over it as she left. But I sat down and watched the other two episodes on the disc this afternoon. I might actually rent the rest of the discs in the future. I mean, it's got the facts more right than your average Hollywood historical flick, and some of the actors are actually decent. Pity Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, who plays Henry VIII, isn't among them. But he manages to be pretty enough to keep me interested.

I think Sarra kind of looks like the actress who plays Anne Boleyn: different body type, darker hair, but very much the same eyes, nose, mouth, chin, facial shape... aaronpike, see if you agree.

This evening, I finished a sock (the one I started on the plane on the way to Israel...geez, these things take a long time) and watched The Fifth Element, which I somehow missed when it came out, but was reminded of by valkyr8 a couple of weeks ago.

Tomorrow: not coming to Jara choir...I can't see being off pain meds in time to drive myself, and I wouldn't have the voice or energy to be very social, much less sing. (I've already begged off Temple choir, though rehearsal was cancelled due to today's snow.) I think the project for the day will be to get a draft together of Bardic Madness challenges. Friday: a prototype webpage for the event. Saturday: going to Sarra/Chandler's for A&S day. Probably I'll sit around and knit and not push myself to talk a lot or be creative. But it'll be good to be around people.

I wasn't really scandalized. I sort of get sick of one of the few roles women have in historical dramas being sexual play things. I cannot imagine that in a 500 year time span there wasn't at least one woman who found fulfillment aside from what she had between her legs. At least the women mostly seemed to be enjoying themselves as well so that's good. Overall, the series just didn't do anything for me. I hope I didn't ruin your enjoyment of it. (I looked up Natalie Dormer online. I still don't see it but she is very lovely so thank you!)

It was good to see you in any event. I send you many happy recovery thoughts and I will see you on Saturday! :)

hey lady - I might still be up for coming over to poke you with stick... er, keep you company tomorrow, depending on the weather. Why don't you call me when you're up and we'll see how you feel and what the roads look like. :)

Ah...whoops. I didn't check LJ until just now, and in any case, calling...not so much. I'm trying to keep talking down to a bare minimum. A lot of the pain seems to be coming from the muscles in my neck/mouth, and surprise, that's also what I use to talk. Colleen is disappointed to find that she hasn't been talking much recently either. (I did warn her.) I've been making no calls, and answering the phone only if I'm feeling particularly good.

I haven't the foggiest idea what the roads look like. Have you been out at all?

I feel okay, wouldn't mind companionship (and someone to return my videos), but don't want you to come out in dangerous conditions. So...I'm leaving it up to you. Drop me an e-mail if you want to discuss plans...

I agree, some of the sexual stuff in The Tudors just seemed unnecessary to me. But it covers a period of history I don't know that much about, and after each episode of the first season I'd go and read the wikipedia articles on the relevant characters, and often they'd have a bit at the end about where the TV series differed from history, which was handy!
