They have ended the regular point-gaining questions early, and are reading silly freebie questions over the station in preparation for what seems like the earliest garruda period ever. Usually they end the regular questions around 10 with the idea that they have two hours for garrudas (the big point questions that are tougher than regular ones), then they putter around wrapping up point totals for longer than you'd think any group of sleepy people could take, and the garrudas don't end until 1:15 or so. Tonight I think they're trying to get the puttering around done early and get on to the garrudas. This would not be a bad thing.
Aaaaaand I've just received word that we've left the main part of the contest in 3rd with a ten-point lead. Normally no one gets any of the garrudas, or if they do it's some small lucky team getting a 20-pointer that skips them from eighth place to fourth or some such thing. We always go into the garrudas with the idea that WE will get one and no one else, which is never the case, but you can't be fatalistic at this late hour in the contest, it spoils the fun. And we're only 15 points down from 2nd...so we COULD conceivably skip up to 2nd...but not to 1st, they're 105 points ahead of us.
This is the part of the evening when we don't know what to do and we aren't completely comfortable with the idea that the contest is coming to an end. But it's ten times nicer to know that we are probably going to the awards ceremony. Wish us one last spot of luck!
