oh, was that your first event? i remember that! it was.... fall... of my sophomore year. so i'd been playing just 12 months.
Actually it was my second event...the weekend after I showed up at my first Falcon's Keep moot was a Newcomer's Event/Althing in Caer Anterth, and a bunch of people were going so I went down with them. But there wasn't much going on besides lectures and a dessert revel. Plus I had been up since 3 am since the drivers insisted on day-tripping, Marshfield to Milwaukee and back. So I slept through some of the lectures. (4 hours is STILL outside my day-tripping horizon. Over three hours, I get crash space or a hotel room.)
I forgot, you would still have been in Northshield at that point! You started before me, it seems...I had been in the SCA for maybe two months at that point, tops.

i started ASAP upon joining college, so sept 96. my first event was february 97, rivenwood tower's 'lupercalia.' so i beat you by a few months, maybe.
and yet look who's got the peerage.... ;p
Oooh. I've been blogged about! ;-P
Mind if I add you as a friend?
Go for it! And I'll do the same, if you don't mind!
YAY!
Hi!
I am a bit punchy, but if you're the new person, I shall again say Hi!
She is--and she proposes to bring her boyfriend too!
I like boys and I generally approve of them at events.
Generally.
He's a very nice boy. A bit on the shy side (read: He can be easily intimidated, so no scaring him away!). But very nice, sweet, funny, and smart.
I'll volunteer to help(as long as it's a day I can come of course, I have a fairly flexible schedule as long as I know well in advance).

YAY! I'll let you know when I have a clearer idea of when this will be. I'm hoping to have a date pinned down by, say, September. No idea when the feast will be at this point--I'll have to see the fall event calendar before I speculate.
You? The chatty-lane? You're such a cold and unwelcoming sort of person. Rude too. And mean. Did I mention cold and unwelcoming? I've never seen you smile at *anyone*.
Heartless wench.
(<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3!!!!)
*pout*
You're so cruel to point out my shortcomings in a public forum!
I shall now quit the SCA in discouragement. Goodbye.
*sound of footsteps, then door slamming*
*sound of giggling coming from other side of door*
AND STAY OUT!
*steals your laurel medallion, dyes her hair and gets a perm*
I am Eliane 2.0.
Or. You know... like... not really. I'd have to get a voice box transplant and that sounds like *work*.
Edited at 2009-03-05 04:20 am (UTC)
In order to sound like me, you'd have to get a voice box transplant FROM ME, which sounds both painful and...IMPOSSIBLE! Because a) they don't do that, and b) I'm not giving mine up!
HAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
(Besides, I think you have a lovely singing voice.)
a) Yeah, well they never did a heart transplant before they did it, so nyah. b) You will if I steal it from you! Ooooh, or I could go find an evil octopus witch and get her to put your voice into yoru medallion and then I could really steal it forever muahahaha!
(Eh. I've got a voice. T'ain't nothin' special really.)
Yeay!!! I hadn't gotten a new-person email in more than a month... it was meant to be!
One things that people seemed interested in, but I wasn't really able to get off the ground, was the idea of a regular sewing moot (bi-annual?). Have newbies come in with fabric and teach them how to make basic garb. Give regulars space to cut out garb and sew and chat and share tasty things... etc.
Cool--I would love to look into doing some sewing moots.
I like this idea.
Once upon a time I learned how to sew. And then I stopped using this ability. And now I no longer remember how to even thread the darned machine!
I don't think a good job is uncharacteristic for you.
No, ambition in general is uncharacteristic of me...I generally aspire to do a good job, but am not always zealous about accomplishing that goal.
If it's not too imposing, I would LOVE to be the feast-o-crat for Newcomers' again. I had a blast doing it this last time around, and everyone seemed to love the food. I'm in as long as the usual schedule and such don't get in the way.

Just realized I am slow in responding to this...it's not for lack of enthusiasm about the idea! I think it would be wonderful if you wanted to do that. The food was GREAT last year. Let's keep Newcomers' in the back of our brains and if either of us comes up with a theme or food ideas, get in touch with each other, sound like a plan?
Sounds smashing!
Speaking of smashing, that gives me a great theme idea for the feast, just one of many to come, I'm sure: Haggis, 'neeps, and 'tatties. Mmmm... mushy food, all on one plate.

My one experience with haggis in the SCA was...not so positive. Actually they called it 'haggis spread'. Basically it was oatmeal and liver mushed together. It was awful.
So you'll forgive me if I'm not very excited about the "smashed things" theme...but the 'neeps and 'tatties might be good with something else, maybe roasted meat or chicken? I dunno...keep thinking of ideas... |
